VILLAIN is a psychedelic bass guitar drone film by Immortal Massacre. That’s me on bass: Sev Fotschky.

Imagine tapping into my head while I’m in a deep sleep. Memories of my wife Xavia before illness changed our lives, desire, debauchery, and isolation all bleed together like an acid trip inside a dream.

The word VILLAIN keeps appearing over me, Xavia, and the other images because it belongs to the whole dream. I feel isolated, misunderstood, and often hated. That feeling follows everything through my head.

Sexuality is part of our life and part of these memories. We’re rough around the edges, and we have zero fucks to give about fitting someone else’s idea of respectable. I didn’t make this for sympathy. I made it to show us.

I still make music as Immortal Massacre. I’ve been teaching myself bass for about two years, and I’m proud of what I’m making. I recorded the bass on my cell phone, and I like how it sounds. I love this drone.

The footage is archival, including my bass performance. The fictional, dramatic breakdown scenes come from my short film Echos of the Fallen. These older images come together as memories and fragments of a fever dream.

One more thing about this jam—

When I hear it, I don’t really see a stage or a guy playing bass. I see fire.

I see warriors gathered silently before battle. Faces lit by flame. Paint being applied. Leather pulled tight. Weapons checked. Smoke moving through the darkness. No speeches. No celebration. Just that quiet moment when everybody there knows what comes next.

In my head the imagery moves between Native American warriors and Norse/Viking warriors—not because those histories or cultures are interchangeable, but because there is something in that ancient warrior spirit that hits me deeply: courage, preparation, brotherhood, ancestry, resolve.

The drums don’t sound like the battle to me.

They sound like the ritual before it.

Not rage yet.

Resolve.

That’s the film playing in my head when I hear this.
