FAKE DOO DOO HEAD: An Artist’s Guide to Cheating is a satirical short film and music video about creativity, artificial intelligence, gatekeeping, and the strange idea that using a new tool somehow erases the artist behind the work.
The project began as a joke.
After hearing variations of “that’s pretty good... for AI,” and watching people dismiss music, film, images, and other creative work simply because artificial intelligence had been involved somewhere in the process, I started asking a basic question:
At what point does using a tool mean the artist suddenly stops being the artist?
FAKE DOO DOO HEAD takes that argument and pushes it into absurdity.
The film blends comedy, mock-documentary narration, music video imagery, distorted digital visuals, retro computer aesthetics, animation, aggressive electronic and metal-inspired music, old footage from previous productions, and deliberately childish insults to explore a very adult argument about authorship and creative legitimacy.
Throughout the film, I become the subject of a ridiculous public investigation.
Did Sev write the words?
Yes.
Did he develop the idea?
Yes.
Did he shoot the footage?
Yes.
Did he edit the scenes?
Yes.
Did he decide what stayed, what changed, and what the final piece became?
Yes.
Did he use AI?
Apparently that last answer is enough for some people to declare everything before it invalid.
That contradiction became the entire point of the film.
FAKE DOO DOO HEAD is not an argument that everyone has to embrace artificial intelligence, and it is not a demand that anyone like the finished work.
You can hate the music.
You can hate the film.
You can hate the style.
You can hate the technology.
That is criticism.
But judging the artist solely by the tools used to create the work is something else entirely.
At its core, this project is about creative independence.
It is about the writer who cannot find a band.
The filmmaker who does not have a studio behind them.
The photographer experimenting with new forms.
The independent creator trying to turn something that exists only in their head into something real.
Sometimes new tools make that possible.
And sometimes the response is:
“Fake.”
“Fraud.”
“Cheater.”
So the film answers that criticism in the most mature way possible:
FAKE DOO DOO HEAD.
This project was conceived, developed, directed, edited, and creatively controlled by Sev Fotschky.
A Ghost Town Studios LLC Production.
